DeWalt DW735X Planer Unboxing and Setup: A New Woodworker's Point of View

I recently ordered the DeWalt DW735X planer from Grizzly, along with the Grizzly G0813 6" jointer, which I'll be unboxing and setting up next week! Setting up...

    • @theroaringwoodwork2213
      @theroaringwoodwork2213 6 месяцев назад

      I’m an English teacher by day and I name all of my pieces after literary works. Biloxi is from a line in The Great Gatsby and it felt fitting, especially the part about making boxes ☺️ “A man named Biloxi. ‘Blocks’ Biloxi, and he made boxes-that’s a fact-and he was from Biloxi, Tennessee.”

      @@theroaringwoodwork2213 This news makes my heart happy. Your videos are incredibly soothing and inspiring at the same time. After seeing these videos I took it upon myself to seek out the knowledge to start using SketchUp as it seems you do for planning a build. I once played with that program many many years ago for about 10 minutes and never figured out a thing and haven't touched it since until now. After finding a great tutorial from another builder I've been able to model a piece as I followed the video along, My joy in learning a new skill to use for this was overwhelming. I know I wont have near the set up you have but one day I hope to get there. One day at a time, and seeing your focus during these builds only fuels my desire to build like this.

    if you haven't already picked this up, 2:43 you should run the rounded side of your router against the guide!! If you run the flat side, any rotation of the machine will cause the path to deviate. The rounded sides are a constant distance from the edge of the router-bit allowing you to follow the guide perfectly.

    • @theroaringwoodwork2213
      @theroaringwoodwork2213 11 месяцев назад

      In theory, you’re correct. However, my biggest complaint with the Festool router is that you can’t center the bottom plate with a cone the same way you could with a Bosch for example. It clicks in with a spring rather than screwing into the base. That’s why I prefer the flat side.

    Stunning build my friend. The work that goes into these pieces is staggering to me.. I'm relatively new to woodworking. I don't have the types of tools u have but that takes a lot of effort and money to be able to to that so best of luck to ya pal. I love this piece. I love the look of Walnut. It's a beautiful timber when it's used correctly and is that maple u used for the drawers? I especially love the hand cut dovetails too btw. That's real precision there. I have a Jointer/thicknesser but it's only one of the cheap models. It's ok for me for now. It does ok with most woods. The great thing about a tool like that is the ability to clean up rough sawn timber which is cheaper to buy than ready to go.. That's the up[side and can save me money even though I don't work with expensive woods like Walnut atm. The maple u used on the drawers was beautiful too. It's like tiger stripes on it. I have a place not too far away where I can buy set amounts of off cuts from larger pieces and I do it sometimes. It's great to get my hands on some smaller pieces of off cuts just to use in a small box or as accents on another piece of furniture like Walnut handles on a Baltic Birch Plywood cabinet. I'm trying my best man. Keep up the great content. I'm loving watching these pieces come to fruition.. Salute my bro

      @markpurcell1017 I started in my garage with a borrowed 1987 Makita contractor saw and the cheapest DeWalt miter saw I could find. I spent years learning to woodwork (still learning, too) all while working full time in a separate career. Any money I made from selling furniture went directly into buying better tools. And, boy oh boy, it was way more than $28,000, but someone who’s as broke as they are jealous probably wouldn’t understand all that. Happy woodworking 👋🏻
